Bali 2011 - Padang Bai, 10 December

It's a small town, nestled in a group of hills around a bay, providing a dock for ferries to the islands and a moorage for fishing and tourist boats.  Not exactly a lot to do in the town, but some good restaurants, relative quiet, and some beaches nearby.  With a scooter (and some guts) you can get to a number of interesting spots in this part of the island.

Anne & friends at our guest house.
A beatific statue at the guest house.

The view east towards the harbour from a hill to the west of town.

Temple in the middle of town.

Cages with roosters waiting for a fight
The bay.

One of the island ferries.

A returning car ferry, from a beach to the west of the town.

Fighting horse statue on the shore....? Yes, they paint it that way.
The harbour at sunset.

Part of the view from our rooftop - another family's rooftop temple.....
...look another way....

...and another way......

The view of our bathroom wall.

Just some restaurant board at one end of the beach.  Don't remember if we went there...

One afternoon I heard some music or chanting going on in the village, sounding relatively close by.  I went down through the streets, and yes, there was some kind of a ceremony going on - a procession from one family temple down to the seaside temple and back again.

One of those involved.

These are some of the offerings left behind in the street after a temple ceremony. Pretty common sight.
