Hawaii 2012

Finally got to Hawaii!  Anne was here many years ago for a short visit with her parents & family, and we had a few hours layover on our way to American Samoa back in 1978, so it's about time for a couple of weeks to sample an island (the 'Big Island') after Anne's birthday.  It's been fab!  Warm, enough sun, interesting places, great visits with the King & Queen of beautiful beaches, Jeff and Jan, and wonderful lazing around!
I'll just add the odd pictures as the whim strikes (when I'm not too busy tanning), so expect randomness!

Please just click on the pics to 'embiggen.'

A panorama of the 'turtle beach' just north of Kona, introduced to us by Jeff & Jan.  The structures in the water are to provide spots for the sea turtles.  Saw a number of them - gorgeous creatures - and the beach was just excellent for people too!

At the old airport strip around sunset, one of the birds taking advantage of the bird feeding stations at the lovely walking/jogging trail.
....and what's being on the Big Island without the famous statue of King Kamehameha?
