Bali 2011 - Bali, 8 December
Well......we are in Bali.....have been so since the 1st of December.  We stayed in Sanur for the first five days, just getting over jet-lag and trying to adjust to the heat and humidity (temp: 86F; + humidity equivalent: 100+F).  Don't see how you could 'adjust' to this combo - it is the start of Bali's rainy season, and in Sanur we would get rain once a day.  Since then, fair bit of sun, some gray, a little rain, bloody humid....but this or Victoria's gray and under 40F?  No contest - no aches & pains (getting old) compared to back home.  Food's been generally pretty good, people friendly (too friendly in places of course - 'need taxi? what you program?  eat in my restaurant?  come in my shop?.....etc, but not nearly as bad as other places we've been).  The people here seem genuinely friendly in general.  They tolerate you when you stick your nose into their religious ceremonies or peer into their houses (not that I'm a voyeur).
On our way to Padang Bai, in SE Bali, where we're spending some days, we took a 'driver & taxi' loop around through the mountains and valleys of some of east Bali.
Our place in Padang Bai is a small family hotel and we intelligently got a room with air-con. We have a nice shared balcony, but the greatest hangout is a huge, shaded third floor balcony that catches any breezes that come by.

I'll try to add some pics over the next while taken on the `loop` - again, internet speeds fairly slow, I`m fairly laazzzzy editing down pics....and that`s enough excuses.

One of the many statues in the Tirtagangga water palace.  Unlike 32 years ago (free) now an entry fee of 10,000 Ruppees. Still a beautiful place .... but ... not to seem like a cranky 'ya outa been here 30 years ago' guy .... it was a bit more fabulous when it was a more open and less managed place.
